Current bike choices

I'm looking at getting back into riding, after not riding for 10+
years.

(Rode for 5 years, last bike being a Katana 750. I did ride a
friend's FJR1300 for an hour last weekend and will be (re)taking the
MSF class in a couple weeks.)
Kudos on knowing you need the MSF course.

There are 3 bikes I'm seriously interested in choosing from, would
appreciate
any feedback from folks owning them:

1) Yamaha FZ1 - moderately fast, not very expensive

2) Triumph Speed Triple - pretty fast, light, a little pricier
Heh heh. Get some test rides. Things've changed.

3) BMW K1200R Sport - pricey but possibly much higher quality and
value retention, low maintenance shaft drive. But heavier than the
other 2 and 6" wider wheel base.
[6" longer?] [Do you need a bike capable of 186 miles per hour?]

Buy an inexpensive used bike first. If, after a year or so, you decide
you aren't going to quit riding again, you will not have lost a bundle.
Then, if you're still riding in the spring of '08 or so, buy what you
really want.
That would've been the sensible thing to do. But I didn't.

Rode a Speed Triple. Went gaga over said Speed Triple. Bought the
Speed Triple.

BTW, another kudos for not starting off with "What cruiser should I buy,
and what pipes should I put on it?" ;-)

Two friends of mine both bought new BMW K1200GT's this afternoon. They
are as happy as pigs in .. whatever it is pigs like.

Thanks, Don
