Bought a BMW R1200RT

Oh joy, another toy!
"He who dies with..."

At first I wanted a Yammy FJR, or a Beemer K1200GT, or even the new
(yet-to-be-released) Kawi Concours 14. The reviews and forums rave about the
Yammy and Beemer sport tourers, but pointed out their relative lack of
maneuverability (which is a priority for me).

So, today I test drove an FJR and the Beemer R1200RT. Of course, the FJR had
the raw power but the RT blew it away in terms of nimbleness. Also, the FJR
had me in a position that put too much pressure on my wrists. No good, for
me. This is why I've never owned a sport bike.
The R1200ST is the more sporty-tourer you would compare with the FJR,
and it is even more nimble than the R1200RT. Did you look at the ST? My
son-in-law has a 2005 R1200ST, and I don't have any wrist problem with
it. You may be a taller person, though.

Anyhoo, I really like the RT. Plenty of power (for me) and a joy to ride
through the hills (no dales, yet).
You'll enjoy it.

I rode my old RT for a little over 100K, never dropped her, and only problem
was transmission seals and neutral switch which I changed myself. Least it
is one BMW that you can still work on yourself like setting valves, changing
plugs, etc. Their K-line is more "dealer firendly" with regards to service
I'm finding.
Great bike; enjoy it!
