The choice

Well my trust 99 R1100 RT is in the shop. It may just have a loose nut
on the clutch adjuster or may have a bad clutch bearing. I won't know which
till the shop gets a look at the bike late next week. The loose nut would
be a no brainer on getting it fixed and keep on trucking. Clutch work on a
BMW could get very expensive fast. The bike only has 71000 miles and the
clutch should have been good for at least another 80K.
So I am thinking if the bearing is going bad, it is time for a new
bike. Since finaces are tight, I was trying to decide between a BMW 650 GS or
a Honda Silverwing. They are similiar size engines and very similiar prices.
I have been debating on getting a smaller bike because most of my riding is
commuting and my wife will never go on a long bike trip.
Anyone with experience on either want to make comments.

Suzuki V-Strom 650!!!

Trust me. Just sit on one...

Although I do like scooters, too- I've heard that the Yamaha and Suzuki
400cc models are the best compromise of
Not knowing BMWs except to think they have dry clutches, but I have done a
couple of Japanese wet clutches, I know parts are a little pricey, even if
you can do the labor yourself.

Given that, I looked seriously at the BMW 650 singles, but at the price I
backed off. The Silverwing is a SERIOUS scooter. Just not my style.

Regardless, fixing the bike you have will still be less than buying new.

So if you like the BMW (you put 70k on it), keep it. Otherwise it is a
candy store of bikes out there, enjoy shopping.

Just my 2 cents,

power/weight/bulk/practicality/price.

I've heard that the BMW 650GS is lacking in character-mainly due to the
motor's power delivery and sound. I myself like the styling of the CS
version, but again-price is the biggest strike against it.
The BMW VS. The V-Strom

I thought it was an interesting comparison when I was looking at the
begining of the spring so thought I'd share it with you.

Both are great though one factor I didn't add in here that is nice -
Suzuki dealerships - there are a ton.
