[OT] Europe has gone mad.

This came into effect today:
What is the point of "x-raying" a clear liquids/gels? unless I'm
mistaken "X-raying" does not help determine if a substance is
potentially explosive.

Pastes I can understand, if they are looking for a concealed object,
but, again, how does an XRay tell toothpaste from explosive paste
(should such a thing exist)?

I propose that we start a list of dangerous items, so that we arrange
for them to be banned. For our saftey, of course. The only provisio is
that the list should really contain items that could be used to hijack
an aircraft.
We went up in the London Eye the other week. We were checked for sharp
objects and plastic explosives etc, and Sarah had to hand over her nail
clippers. Presumably there was a genuine risk that we would hijack one of
the glass bubble thingies and fly it to Beirut at nose hair clipper-point.
Passengers. Air travel would be a lot safer without them.

Some food for thought.

- All Alcohols sold in duty free shops (could be used to make liquid
explosives).
- Pens, pencils and all other pointy objects that could be used to stab
people.
- Shoe laces to stop aircraft staff from being garotted.

Any other takers.
Angle Grinder?
If you're in first class/business class, I'll agree with you. They
sometimes have power points available.
Do any airlines have 12v sockets available?
I dunno about 12V, but some Air France planes have 110/220V sockets
(low power jobbies for PC's and the like) in Business class.
12v - yes, Transatlantic at least, business class only tho.

Airline travel used to be a real pleasure of mine, but these rules and
regulations are turning the whole experience into a complete farce.
If you're business class you get "proper" cutlery and wine glasses, but such
things would be deemed dangerous if you tried to bring them onboard. :S
